The East Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB)has provided information that Mr. Augusto de la Torre, Chief Economist for Latin American and the Caribbean at The World Bank will present the 20th Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lecture at the Sir Cecil Jacobs Auditorium, ECCB Headquarters on, 4 November.
The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) began hosting the Annual Sir Arthur Lewis Memorial Lecture series in 1996, in honour of the memory of Sir Arthur Lewis, Nobel Laureate in Economics, who made a significant contribution to Caribbean regional integration.
Since joining The World Bank in 1997, Mr de la Torre has held the positions of Senior Advisor in the Financial Systems Department and Senior Financial Sector Advisor in the Latin American and the Caribbean region.
Mr de la Torre who has published extensively on a broad range of macroeconomic and financial development topics, is a national of Ecuador. From 1993 to 1997, he was the head of the Central Bank of Ecuador, and in November 1996 was chosen by Euromoney Magazine as the year’s “Best Latin Central Banker.” From 1986 to 1992 Mr de la Torre worked at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), where, among other positions, he served as the IMF’s Resident Representative in Venezuela from 1991-1992.
