Does anyone think its right for any person here on Montserrat, despite who they may be, to be breaking the health laws by illegally dumping garbage in an area where is not a designated refuse dump site? I am talking about the Caines River area of Montserrat. There are several individuals, some of them well-known persons who dump there rubbish in this areas and it is wrong.
The river is being affected and if there was to be constant rain, it is highly probable that Delta’s bulk station would be flooded. Some of the items being dumped are: Old stoves, beds, tree cuttings, smelly mouldy items, concrete from
broken down buildings, scraps of wood, cement bags amongst other items.
The environmental authorities have been very slow to address this complaint, and they have been complained to over and again. Neither too does the Minister responsible for Health seems to be be showing any interest in rectifying this problem. Where are you Mr Minister?
Why is this? Is it because of who the individuals are that are dumping in this area? Can this be right folks?
The official dump site is over at Jack Boy Hill, so why is this problem not being addressed?
