Last weekend organizers of the Village Basketball league were forced to postpone scheduled games to this Friday and Saturday, August 10 and 11.
The decision was taken due to heavy rainfall on Friday evening and the annual Cudjoe Head Day celebration on Saturday. According to organizers, in light of these circumstances, the best decision was to postpone and allow the games to run as normal the following week.
This Friday, the first game is scheduled to kick-off with Cudjoe Head Renegades against MSS, then Davy Hill Ghetto Stars against Lookout Shooters in the second game.
Saturday line-up will proceed with Salem Jammers against Cudjoe Head Renegades in the first game and Shooter versus MSS in the second game.
During the last few weeks, two teams seem to be slowing emerging as top runners- Lookout Shooters and Salem Jammers, however Davy Hill Ghetto Stars seem to be following closely on their trail.
In the last games played on Friday July 27, Cudjoe Head Renegades lost to Davy Hill Ghetto Stars, missing the mark by six points with 71 to 76 points. Top Scorers for Renegades were: Alex Marshall with 22 points, 12 rebounds, 2 steals; Gregory Gerald with 21 points, 2 assists, 1 steal and Rudolph Lee- 17 points, 5 assists, 25 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block.
While Alex Weekes scored 20 points, 4 assists, 11 rebounds; Vaughn Fenton with 18 points, 15 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block and Nichon Weekes – 17 points, 2 assists, 14 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block, were the top scorers for Ghetto Stars.
In the second game St. Peter’s Hilltop lost by five points against Salem Jammers with the score 45 for 50. Top Scorers for Hilltop were: Julius Fergus 12 points, 14 rebounds; Tio Shortte – 10 points, 14 rebounds, 2 steals and Seon Evelyn – 14 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal.
Meanwhile Jamal Wade – 13 points, 4 assists, 12 rebounds, 6 steals; Desmond Washington – 10 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal; Julian Wade Jr – 10 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and Jenzil Skerritt – 5 points, 12 rebounds, were the top Scorers for Jammers.
In Saturday’s games, Ghetto Stars played against MSS. The Game was awarded to Ghetto Stars due to rain with the score at 73 for 46. Top Scorers for Ghetto Stars were: Nichon Weekes – 30 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals; Alex Weekes – 23 points, 6 assists, 18 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 block and Vaughn Fenton – 7 points, 5 assists, 12 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 blocks Julius Morris – 26 points, 6 rebounds, 7 steals; Chaquille Sam – 8 points, 14 assists, 10 rebounds, 2 steal, Deane Archer – 10 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block and Jaleel Syers with 5 points, 4 assists, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 block were the top scores for MSS in the first game.
Game two was cancelled due to rainfall and the teams, Lookout Shooters and Salem Jammers were awarded two points each.
