Unkept raffle house

The following was emailed to the Hon. Parliamentary Secretary, Jermaine Wade and copied to The Montserrat Reporter.  The house is to be raffled the end of this month.

Hello Jermaine,
Very recently I took some visitors who had Montserrat roots out to Lookout to view the raffle house as they were interested in buying some raffle tickets.
The house itself looked lovely and its ocean view was awesome, however unfortunately its surroundings left much to be desired. This included:

  • an unkept lawn
  • weeds in abundance
  • bits of building material left in the grass
  • unused floor tiles left in the grass.

Thousands of people will be, or have been, looking at this particular house and I do not need to tell you that first impressions are important.

What would it take for someone with a weed-whacker to cut the grass and weeds and to take up the discarded materials from the lawn? Ten minutes? There is an obvious lack of pride showing here and I was ashamed and embarrassed. This is ‘so Montserrat’. Please prove me wrong.

Sadly, I drove away with our guests, stumped as to what excuse I could come up with that would make sense. Again sadly, whereas they had intended to buy raffle tickets, they left the island without doing so.

Best regards,
Shirley
