All Montserratians,
In at least two press conferences DFID indicated that they are prepared to provide, ‘’EXPERTS’’ to examine any proposal for the development of power systems here on Montserrat;
“BRING THEM ON”
The island knows that Montserrat Geothermal has been asking the various administrations to provide the necessary documents to proceed with its bid for both a new diesel generation system and to exploit the geothermal resource on behalf of the People of Montserrat. Montserrat Geothermal organized educational leaflets, town hall meetings, radio talk shows and newspaper articles over the last 5 years. Expressions of interest forms were distributed and 100s were returned indicating how positive the public would be to a Montserratian owned and operated utility.
Montserrat Geothermal has no fear of competition all are welcome as long as the playing field is LEVEL.
DFID and the Montserrat Government have said that they have had many offers (re geothermal), two of which were rejected, when details revealed they would not benefit the People but only those company’s shareholders.
The authorities MUST make it clear to all potential bidders that;
1. Bids must be made public therefore totally TRANSPARENT
2. There will be NO confidential clauses.
3. Offers will be presented to the people of Montserrat by way of the newspaper, through stakeholders meetings and radio call in programs for their evaluation.
4. There shall be no hidden modifications to the specifications.
The winning bid will be that which offers the best deal to the People of Montserrat and retains the geothermal asset in the hands of the People for all time.
Montserrat Geothermal is confident that our plan will be the best as it is a company established on Montserrat with its shares in the hands of the People and having a team dedicated to the provision of the maximum benefits for its shareholders-Montserratians, on island and in the wider Diaspora.
We Must All Remember
A) we all need electricity,
B) utilities can be a better investment than some government bonds, that utilities very rarely ever fail, this is more than can be said for some banks or insurance companies,
C) all companies are in business to make money for their shareholders and,
D) the shareholders in the case of Montserrat Geothermal are the People of Montserrat.
We may only get one shot at this fantastic opportunity to own our utility. Montserrat ownership will have enormous and long lasting affects on not only those here now but the future generations to come.
Yours, looking to the future.
Sam Rhys
