We are treating the communication signed by Miss Johnson as a press release and publish the following.
“The OCTs governments in collaboration with OCTA (Overseas Countries and Territories Association) have recognised the high importance that innovation plays as a driving force for economic growth. As a result, the Territorial Strategies for Innovation (TSI) project was developed out of the interest and commitment of the various governments to enhance their economies via the principles of innovation. The project was conceptually designed on the basis that the Governments will have full ownership of the process while support is provided from the OCTA innovation team in Brussels. The primary objectives of the TSI project are:
- To develop a shared approach and enhance the links between the main stakeholders on strategic objectives for supporting innovation on island
- To support the reinforcement of OCTs and OCTA capacities on innovation and related strategy setting and also,
- To encourage regional and sectorial corporation where appropriate.
I was subsequently appointed Innovation Manager and have been tasked with performing the following functions:
- Assessment of the opportunities for innovation implementation
- Development of innovation strategy based on local conditions
- Implementation of a pilot project which could benefit from the support of an EU grant up to €200,000.00.
Currently, I am in the process of gathering information from various stakeholders to fully assess Montserrat’s innovation opportunities. Within your department/organisation/business, are there any innovative projects which could possibly benefit from such a grant? Such a project must demonstrate cohesion between the aims of the TSI project and the needs and resources of the island. Should you have such a project or business idea, kindly submit a one page brief of the project scope and a breakdown of the financials.
The Business Facilitation Manager is asking interested businesses to submit ther Innovation ideas.
