PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Aug 14, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago police were searching for an 18-year-old girl who killed a 16-year-old on Thursday in an apparent jealous rage.
Police said Jernice Francis died after being stabbed in the neck by the 18-yearold, who reportedly was seeking out another girl she felt was involved with her boyfriend.
The police said the 18-year-old fled the scene.
“This was just senseless,” said Lisa Francis, 43, the mother of the victim, adding “she was just a child.
“Is that what you killed someone over? A man? That makes no sense because even if you had killed your target, what would be the point?
“For you to end up in jail while he is free to do what he wants? What is the point of that? I just don’t understand,” she said.
Media reports Friday said that after the stabbing, the unidentified 18-year-old stayed for a while, and even apologised before fleeing the area.
The murder toll now stands at 254 for the year while the corresponding toll for last year was 270.
