St Kitts-Nevis government reaffirms plans to build another courthouse

High Court in Basseterre, St KittsBASSETERRE, St Kitts (SKNIS) — The government of St Kitts and Nevis is working to have another courthouse built in Basseterre in order to help reduce the backlog of cases in the court.

During the debut of the Team Unity government’s new weekly call-in radio show “Working for You” on Wednesday, Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris disclosed that discussions are underway with the chief justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court regarding this initiative.

“We have said publicly that we will pursue the operationalization of a second court in St Kitts and Nevis to ensure that many of the matters now backlogged in the court could come to proper resolution because justice delayed would be justice denied,” the prime minister said. “We are in discussions with the chief justice in relation to the execution of that mandate which we have from the people,” he added.
