St. Augustine School’s Jennifer Farrell wins Princess Show at ArrowFest 2010

GIU – Eight-year-old Jennifer Farrell from the St. Augustine Primary School was crowned Princess during Sunday night’s competition organized by the St. Johns Action Club.

This is the fifth year for the competition, which has become a fixture in the Montserrat festival calendar, now called ArrowFest. The event was held before a full house at the Montserrat Cultural Centre.

Contesting for the crown were six girls between the ages of eight and nine. Shameka Corbett; Jennifer Farrell, Ashanti Agard, Quenice Ryan, Tonika Greenaway, and Oscarina Zapata competed in four categories.

Jennifer won the Best Introduction and Best Talent segments while Ashanti Agard took the Best Swimwear and Best Formal wear segments.

Throughout the evening entertainment was provided by other young people from around the island. They included performances by Khari Irish, Platinum Dancers, The Real McCoy, Hot Squad, Kimberly Duberry, Shontae Roac,h and the Small Beginnings Orchestra.

Farrell gave a solid introduction then wowed the audience and the judges with her talent. Dressed as an old woman, Jennifer lamented the plight of young children these days who are getting pregnant early, using drugs, and dressing too old for their age.

The new princess was crowned by previous year’s winner Sonia Gail Cabey.
