St. Anthony Lodge donates to charitable organisations at Christmas

Meals & Wheels receive donation from St. Anthony Lodge

Mr. George Skerritt, the Master of St. St. Antony Lodge, Montserrat on December 23, 2010, proudly presented a check in the amount of $1,500.00 to the Meals on Wheels program.

Mr. Kenneth Scotland, Social Security Fund Director, accepted the check as Chairman, on behalf of the Meals on Wheels. Scotland on acceptance told a small gathering which included two other Lodge members and members of the local media who witnessed the presentation, “this is really the season for giving, because this is the second check that we have received this week.”

He added: “it would go a long way towards the ensuring the accountability of the program for the vulnerable people that we present meals to, five days a week.

Skerritt told the chairman,  “this is as our charitable donation to your organization.”

Scotland after had thanked the Lodge and said, “…so again thanks very much, and I wish you all successful in your future endeavors…”

The current Lodge body was constituted in Montserrat since 1925, but according to the Master, to that there was another Lodge prior, with the same name “dating way back.

Skerritt explained that the Lodge is a charitable organization contrary to some “misconceived held opinions and belief that the lodge is a secret society.”

“We operate as a charity where the members contribute largely towards other charitable organizations and every Christmas season we choose an organization such as Meals on Wheels or the Red cross…to be a recipient of our gift at that particular year,” he added.

The  St. Anthony Lodge has both local and overseas membership with a  regular attendance at about 16 to 18. “Some of our older members who continue their active membership. live abroad primarily because of the volcanic crisis,” the Master further explained.
