Social Services Dept to inform and educate on their services

(GIU) BRADES, Montserrat – The Social Services Department will be conducting a community outreach programme to educate and sensitise the public on the services they offer.

According to Teresena Fergus, the Director of the Social Services Department, “the outreach programme will commence on Monday May 26th until Friday May 30th. Each morning from Monday to Thursday, Social Service Officers will be live on the Breakfast Show on ZJB Radio Montserrat to discuss the various services the department provides.”

On Monday, the focus is on the Financial Assistance Programme; Tuesday – Probation Services; Wednesday – Children and Family Services; and Thursday – Elderly Care.

The week closes with an Open House at the Brades Art and Educational Centre from 10am to 1pm, where the public is invited to come and speak to the officers about how they can access the available services.

Fergus explained that “the current Social Services System resulted from an in-depth review in 1999 of the existing Welfare Provisions necessitated by the ravages of the volcanic crisis. Our vision and mission are in keeping with the Sustainable Development Plan’s (SDP) 2008 – 2020 with the aim to promote human development and improved quality of life of all people on Montserrat through an efficient, responsive and accountable system of governance and public service.”
