Rotary International, District 7030 Governor Tony Watkins of Barbados along with Assistant Governor, Paul Ryan of the Rotary Club of Antigua and Barbuda, paid an official visit to the Montserrat Rotary Club and Rotaractors. They arrived Monday evening and departed Wednesday morning.
During their visit, the Rotarians paid the usual courtesy calls on the Governor and Chief Minister, Sarita Francis, (Deputy) and Easton Taylor-Farrell (Ag.) respectively. They visited various sites including the Montserrat Volcano Observatory, Montserrat National Trust and the Montserrat Cultural Centre and toured the Little Bay New Town development.
Besides meeting with Rotarians and the local executive at their regular meeting on Tuesday evening, the visitors performed an official function where they presented Dictionaries to Grade 3 at the Lookout Primary School.
Grade 3 teacher, Delelta Weekes spoke to TMR of her gratefulness to the Rotarian Clubs of Antigua and Montserrat for the donation of dictionaries.
She said that it was a real humanitarian deed on the part of the Antigua rotary Club in collaboration with Montserrat Rotary Club, as she expressed appreciation. “We are very indeed appreciative of this gesture and the children will use them to the best of their ability. It would also help them with their dictionary skills and also to enhance their literacy skills,” Miss Weekes said as she added, “I just want to say thank you to these organizations and I hope more of these gestures would come along.”
Later during a fund raising exhibition Denelta told TMR, “the children appreciate them from the time they got them. They have been bringing them to school every day… some of them have covered theirs for safe keeping…they are really putting a lot of emphasis and care into the material they got.”
