Public works department has been carrying out repairs to mitigate the problem of skidding just past soldier Ghaut.
On Wednesday, June 16 around 7:00 am at the bottom of soldier Ghaut a one-vehicle accident occurred. The accident involved one vehicle M 2499 being driven by a female with one other child occupant. No serious injuries were suffered by both occupants of the vehicle.
In Our issue of May 28th a spokes man for the Public Works Department when speaking about Road reconstruction works that were completed at Woodlands, because of frequent accidents on that road from accidents, said, “We are hoping to deal with Forgathy under the ‘road surfacing project’. A public works official stated that the one of the delays in undertaking the Woodlands road reconstruction was due to the lack of funds and that the road-surfacing project should run from Salem to St. John’s.
One prominent citizen says, “At this time when cut backs are being made, the resurfacing of the road from Salem to St. John’s cannot be that urgent, so some of the funds should be used to deal with road matters of urgency.” Vehicle owners emphasized that this recent accident is more than reason enough for special effort be made to fix areas such as on Forgathy, like Woodlands (Runaway Ghaut) road. The suggestion is offered that moneys should be taken from the Road Surfacing Project to priorities such needs.
