Early this week Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Montserrat Police Service (RMPS) issued a brief on the passing of Elva Mirelyn Sweeney. She died on August 11, 2013 at the Glendon Hospital. She was 47 years old. She was buried yesterday after a funeral service at the St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Lookout and interred at the Judy Piece cemetery.
She was enlisted in the RMPF just ten days short of her 21st birthday on November 22, 1986. According to a statement from the RMPS, “Miss Sweeney served for twenty-eight (28) unbroken years. During her years of service, she worked in all departments within the organisation and attained the rank of Acting Inspector. At the time of her death she was in command of the departments responsible for Human Resources, Training, Traffic, and IT.”
Deputy Commissioner Siddell informed that as a serving member of the RMPS up to the point of her death, “under our jurisdiction, she is entitled to a full military funeral.”
The military style funeral ceremony and service was held yesterday, August 29, “marked to celebrate the life of our beloved, Elva Mirelyn Sweeney, Acting Inspector…” the police wrote.
The Ag Inspector leaves to mourn three boys, three sisters and one brother and her mother.
