The Owner and Founder of the RAMS Group of Companies has died at the age of 72. Krishan ‘Kishu’ Chandiramani passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014 in the twin island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
According to the popular St. Kitts radio Station WINN FM, the prominent businessman and philanthropist, died in Basseterre, hours after the private sector umbrella group the Chamber of Industry and Commerce(CIC) honoured him at its annual banquet at the St Kitts Marriott, Saturday night.
The business icon had recently returned to the federation after undergoing two surgeries overseas to correct a respiratory ailment that had been plaguing him for some time.
Mr. Chandiramani was a past president of both the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Hotel and Tourism Association.
Manu Chandiramani owner of Rams Emdee Enterprises Ltd. in Montserrat was the brother of the deceased who migrated to St. Kitts from India in 1956 to work in his aunt’s general store.
In 1960 the family ventured into the Supermarket & Wholesale Food Business in St Kitts and by 1969, opened branches in Montserrat and St. Maarten. Despite the volcanic crisis in the mid 90’s, the family business continues to be a major contributor to Montserrat’s business sector. In 1986, the businesses were separated and Mr. Chandiramani took control of the St. Kitts and Nevis businesses called RAM’s Group of Companies.
