SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) _ Two men in Puerto Rico have been fatally shot in broad daylight at a busy intersection as the island surpasses a record number of homicides.
Police said in a statement that the shooting occurred Saturday at noon near a shopping center in the western town of Hormigueros. They said a person got out of a car and shot the men before speeding away.
Authorities said police arrested one suspect after a long chase but do not yet have a motive.
A record 1,005 killings have been reported in the U.S. Caribbean territory, breaking the previous record of 995 slayings in 1994.
