Youth Affairs and Sports portfolio transferred to the Ministry of Education
The Ministry of Youth Affairs, Community Services and Sports known as MYACSS has been abolished effective April 1, 2012.
According to a notice from the Deputy Governor’s (DG) Office, the Youth Affairs and Sports portfolios have been transferred to the Ministry of Education while the Community Services portfolio will now be a part of the Ministry of Health.
According to the information coming out of the DG’s office the position of Permanent Secretary MYACCS was also abolished. Mr. Eugene Skerritt, Permanent Secretary (PS) of MYACCS will now proceed on retirement from a career during which he served as PS in every Ministry throughout a period of 34 years.
DG Sarita Francis said that the Public Service over the past 23 of those 34 years has passed through extremely challenging circumstances, beginning with hurricane Hugo in 1989.
In a note to heads of the Public services the DG noted: “Mr. Skerritt’s contribution to the service and to the Montserrat Community in general is very much appreciated by all who have worked closely with him over the years. On behalf of the Public Service, I am sure you will join me in thanking Mr. Skerritt wishing him God’s blessing for a happy and healthy retirement.”
For the public’s information, all departments remain at their present locations.
