ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Prime Minister Gaston Browne is heading a two-member delegation to Italy for talks with prospective investors, according to an official statement issued here.

It said that prior to be elected head of government last June, Prime Minister Browne held numerous meetings with potential foreign investors “ that would generate fair returns on their investments while energizing and growing the economy”.

During his four day visit, Browne will meet with some of these investors, the statement said.

“During the 10 years of the UPP (United Progressive Party) government, the level of foreign direct investment has declined steadily, leading to very little construction, no new jobs and no increase in revenues to the Treasury or in foreign exchange,” Browne said.

“The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) administration intends to reverse this trend.  That is why I am vigorously engaging potential investors who will play significant roles in boosting private sector development and economic growth,” he added.

The statement said that while in Italy, Prime Minister Browne will meet with investors in solar and wind energy, offshore and onshore natural gas explorations and high-end hotel development. He will also tour a number of the properties and businesses of the prospective investors.
