Police continues vigilance in drug fight – uproots marijuana plants in Dyer Piece

The Royal Montserrat Police Force (RMPF) has reported that in response to information received the community, a joint collaborative effort between the RMPF and the RFA Wave Ruler vessel, some 1002 plants of cannabis sativa (marijuana plants) were uprooted.

A release from the Police said: “In a continued effort to combat the drug trade on island and in keeping with their strategic objectives officers from the Royal Montserrat Police Force joined forces with officers from the RFA Wave Ruler vessel that visited our shores last weekend.

“This collaborative effort between the two agencies allowed officers on Wednesday, 13th July, 2011 to assess certain information received from members of the Community.”

As a result of the confirmed information Inspector Rodney reported that a group of Officers from Royal Montserrat Police Force were able to mount a successful mountain patrol in the Dyer Piece area on the weekend where 1002 plants of Cannabis Sativa were uprooted. The said plants were measured to a maximum height of four feet.

The police further reports that, “No arrests have been made in respect of the seizure but it’s clearly an indication of the ongoing drug activity on island.”

The RMPF has expressed their thanks for the assistance received from both ‘the public and the officers of RFA Wave Ruler in this seizure have proved invaluable and we look forward to their continued support.’
