The People’s Democratic Movement has responded with the following Statement to what they refer to as, “unfounded attacks on PDM’s leadership,” claiming they, “will deliver an end to the hardship, joblessness, and perceived corruption that the Meade’s administration spent the last five years perfecting.”

The People’s Democratic Movement declares categorically that recent statements made by outgoing Premier Reuben Meade on ZJB Radio on Wednesday, 6th August, 2014 are totally false, twisting with propaganda, lies and innuendoes and pregnant with power hunger desperation.

Mr. Meade stated that Hon. Don Romeo has not met with him to discuss development issues on Montserrat and instead meets with the Governor.

Here are the facts and not Mr. Meade’s dishonesty:

On specific occasions when the Honourable PDM Leader managed to meet with Mr. Meade he would be quite receptive but two-timing in response. Generally whenever Mr. Romeo would write to the outgoing Premier Meade on a serious matter relating to the public’s interest, the outgoing Premier Meade seldom replied and instead treated the Hon. Romeo with disdain and disrespect, similar to what he displays in the Assembly and to some Civil Servants.

After exercising due diligence and patience with Mr. Meade’s failure to negotiate strategically with the British Government, Hon. Romeo had little choice but to deal with the British Government directly on behalf of the good people of Montserrat. In one situation, outgoing Premier Meade had to admit that his hands were tied suggesting that the Hon. Romeo was better placed to make a strong argument to DfID and the FCO. Then, when Hon. Romeo successfully negotiated with DfID or the FCO, the outgoing Premier Meade sought to take credit for himself.

We humbly ask outgoing Premier Meade to cease his divisive tricks and Machiavellian style of leadership. We do not expect him to act above the fray, but we have the full confidence that the good people of Montserrat will deliver an end to the hardship, joblessness, and perceived corruption that the Meade’s administration spent the last five years perfecting.

Whenever outgoing Premier Meade is asked for information or is questioned on government activities, he deems it as an attack on him personally and refuses to accept that he serves at the people’s will and is answerable to them at all times. Such refusal to be transparent by outgoing Premier Meade again leaves Hon. Romeo no choice but to go to the Governor or DFID directly to get the information and answers needed to work on behalf of the people of Montserrat.

The PDM is also not surprised at Mr. Meade’s disclosure of commercial elements of a contract in relation to a former public servant. The attack was unethical and contrary to globally approved best practices especially in light that the consultancy was approved by the Governor who is responsible for human resources and not hired by an unscrupulous Politician like Mr. Meade.

As Election Day gets closer, the outgoing Premier will become more vicious, more willing to grasp at straws and far more untruthful. Judgment is around the corner and the hand writing is on the wall.

The PDM government will bring an end to the recycled ideas of the outgoing government and will bring new, innovative and transformative ideas to you over the next several weeks. We will bring an end to high levels of unemployment and decrease the Cost of Living. We will put people first. We will get the job done – Together!!
