Mrs Ponde with HE Governor Carriere
Last year, we described Mrs. Josephine Ponde, a widow, as “Now indisputably Montserrat’s oldest centenarian,” after she had turned 107 years-old. That year she celebrated that milestone on Saturday, June 13, 2015, and this year she celebrated on June 13 again and on the same date Montserrat observed and celebrated Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday.
Josephine Pond is Montserrat’s oldest living resident and she celebrated that 108th birthday once again at her home in Olveston. Her Excellency Governor Elizabeth Carriere, who has been honouring all persons living in Montserrat and are 90 years and over in remembrance of the Queen’s 90th, presented the 108-year-old centenarian with a birthday card from Queen Elizabeth II.
The Honorable Premier Donaldson Romeo, Deputy Premier Delmaude Ryan and acting Ministers Gregory Willock and David Osborne joined in the celebration on Monday, where the celebrated lady who shows little sign of what one would expect, was also presented with gift baskets from the Hon. Ryan Ministry of Social services Department.
Mrs. Pond prior to volcanic activity hails from Harris (Hill) residing at her home in Olveston surviving her husband who died December 2014. She is said to remain in superb health, while Governor Carriere reportedly after posing with Mrs. Ponde reportedly commented she looked very spritely and alert.
