Newly appointed German Ambassador Visits Montserrat

German ambassador visits 1German Ambassador, the Honourable Dr. Lutz Gorgens paid a one-day visit to Montserrat, arriving in Montserrat on Thursday, October 29, 2015 to Friday, October 30, during which time he presented his credentials to Her Excellency the Governor, Elizabeth Carriere and the Honourable Premier, Donaldson Romeo.

The 64-year-old Dr. Lutz Gorgens was born in Düsseldorf, Germany. He was appointed November 4, 2014 as Ambassador out of the German Embassy Port-of-Spain to the East Caribbean region residing in Trinidad and Tobago, In addition he serves as non-resident Ambassador for the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat, Barbados, Guyana, Suriname and the Organisation of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).German ambassador visits 2

According to a release from the Office of the Premier, Ambassador Dr. Lutz Gorgens who has already presented his credentials to most of the CARICOM States earned a Ph.D. in German Literature and History,at the University of Tübingen (Germany).

The release stated that during his visit, Ambassador Gorgens had the privilege of attending the “Birding in Paradise” book launch, which took place at Government House on Thursday October 29, 2015, at 6.30 p.m.

On Friday the Ambassador paid courtesy calls to Her Excellency Elizabeth Carriere at her office in Brades and to the Honourable Premier Donaldson Romeo, Deputy Premier and the Honourable Delmaude Ryan Minister of Education, Health, Social Services, Sports and Youth, along with and the Honorable David Osborne, at the Premier’s office located at Government Headquarters in Brades.German ambassador visits

Her Excellency Carriere and Honourable Premier Romeo, jointly hosted a luncheon at Olveston House for Ambassador Gorgens, later that day.

The Honourable Ambassador was taken on a short tour of Montserrat and was able to view the volcano from a safe distance and some of the ruins.

He left Montserrat on the on the Ferry to Antigua on Friday and according to Premier Romeo during brief discussions the Ambassador promised to keep the communication lines opened with the Government of Montserrat, hinting several tourism ideas  The discussions also promised to look into means of ascertaining how Germany can assist in the areas of training and exposure for the people of Montserrat.
