New interim Access Coordinator speaks to upgrade for ferry passengers out of Antigua

Untitled-1According to a ZJB Radio news report the Ministry of Communication, Works and Labour has an Interim Access Coordinator, occasioned by the death of the substantive holder of the position, Horatio Tuitt.

Mr. David “Trixie” Dubberry took up the position on Monday, October 13, 2014.

Mr Dubberry, a former police officer, contested the September 11 General Elections on the People’s Democratic Movement, (PDM) ticket, placing eleventh in the final count, being one of eleven who received more than a thousand votes.

Duberry didn’t win a seat in the Legislative Assembly, he was one of eleven candidates who received more than a thousand votes.

According to reports he comes qualified for the position and he says one of his first priorities as Access Coordinator is to ensure that the necessary facilities are in place in Antigua for ferry passengers traveling to and from Montserrat.

“One of my first priorities for access into Montserrat is to look at our facilities that we have in Antigua,” Duberry told ZJB News.

He said that he currently sees Antigua, “… just like everybody else – as the gateway to Montserrat and we basically have to get those facilities right in Antigua.”

Duberry explains: “I personally believe that it is unfair that when we have young people – children, older people … coming in on our ferry and we do not have the basic facilities, including toilets even a cup of water to drink in Antigua to support our passengers.”

He says, “…as Access Coordinator, especially now our tourist season is upon us, is to make sure that we get our access regarding facilities in Antigua up to the standard which is suitable for sustainable development and sustainable access in and out of Montserrat.”
