GIU – The annual Career Awareness Programme sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Community Services & Sports (MYACSS) began on Wednesday this week at the Montserrat Cultural Centre.
The programme is now in its 14th year and gives selected forms from the Montserrat Secondary School a chance to see the range of career options available on island and others they can consider for the future.
Day one of the programme – a workshop for 75 students in form three to expand their understanding of the world of work. Joy Pond, Youth Development Coordinator said the workshop aims to provide students with the relevant information and advice to enable them to make a good career decision and appropriate choices regarding the subjects they will taken in the fourth form of secondary school. Workshop sessions will include Setting Realistic Career Goals and School/Workplace Discipline.
Day Two – focus on present and future career choices on Montserrat. Presenters come from a variety of careers including woodwork, agriculture, health care, and aviation.
Friday will see the annual Career Fair running from 9am until 3pm at the cultural centre with more than 20 businesses and government agencies represented.
