(GIU) – Three representatives from the Government of Montserrat are in Aruba this week to attend the R3I Regional Risk Reduction Initiative workshop.
Steve Ryan, Operations Officer at the John A. Osborne Airport, Gerard Gray, Director of Environment and Billy Darroux, Director of the Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA) are attending the four-day conference which is being funded by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) office in Barbados.
The workshop which began on May 3 and runs through May 6 at Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino will also include the launch of the R3I project in Aruba. A presentation will be made by Aruban disaster officials about their main challenges and opportunities in terms of disaster management.
Ryan is also to participate in Emergency Managers Weather Information Network (EMWIN) training, looking primarily at tsunami warning systems.
The European Union (EU) has made funding available for several regional projects in the field of disaster management and risk reduction.
