GIU – Montserrat is preparing to host the 70th Meeting of the Monetary Council of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) scheduled for July 15 at the Montserrat Cultural Centre. At this meeting, Chief Minister, the Hon. Reuben T. Meade will also take over chairmanship of the ECCU.
Heads of Government and representatives from the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) are scheduled to arrive on Thursday, July 14 and be hosted at a special reception at Government House with His Excellency the Governor Adrian Davis.
During a short handover ceremony at 9am on Friday, July 15, Chief Minister Meade will take over from Grenada’s Minister of Finance, Hon. V. Nazim Burke as Chairman of the Monetary Council.
Plenary and caucus sessions of the 70th Meeting of the council follow the handing over. Issues to be discussed include the Eight Point Stabilisation and Growth Programme which was established to assist member countries to manage the financial challenges faced from the global economic down turn.
The one-day meeting closes with a cultural evening in the Sir George Martin Auditorium at the Montserrat Cultural Centre.
The local branch of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank is coordinating the meeting in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Minister.
