Montserrat Host CPSA Conference

Private sector businesses stands to benefit from the arrival of more than 100 delegates set to visit the island next week for the 42 annual conference of the Caribbean Public Service Association (CPSA). The event which is scheduled to run for one week, from July 22 to 27 is being organised by the Montserrat Civil Service Association.

President of the CPSA, Mr. Paul Lewis and head of the local Civil Service Association believes that the event will give the economy some boost.

He assures that travel services, taxi drivers, restaurants, hotels, guest houses, villas and other private businesses will benefit from the visit. “We try to spread around the business for all to benefit,” he said.

Mr. Lewis explained that each conference is hosted by the chair country, and as the present chairman of the Association, it is Montserrat’s turn to host the event. The Chairman said that he welcomed the opportunity to host the conference since it will allow him to promote Montserrat to the rest of the Caribbean and all that it ha s to offer.

Monday and Tuesday will be the men’s forum, women forum and young workers forum. The session will look at similar issues but from different perspectives. It will also feature a quiz for the young workers.

Recommendations coming out of these forums will be examined and to see how they will benefit the individual territories. All session will be held at the Montserrat Cultural Centre.

At the end of the conference Mr. Lewis will be handing over the one-year chairmanship to the next appointed chairman.
