Man convicted of sexual assault of five-year-old child

 
 

BELMOPAN, Belize, Nov 25, CMC – A 39-year-old man will return to court on November 30 for sentencing after he was found guilty of sexually assaulting a five-year old child earlier this year.

John Francisco Leslie was found guilty of the offence that reportedly occurred in April when he took the child to his house and assaulted her. The child testified in court on Thursday.

court-rulIn his defence, Leslie’s told the court that on the day of the incident he arrived home in the afternoon and met his children playing with the five-year-old girl.

Leslie said that later that same day the child’s father came looking for her and that’s when he was accused of having taken her into his home.

But Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith said the child’s testimony was no different than the evidence provided to the police back in April.

Leslie, who appeared unrepresented, faces up the three years in prison.
