Governor hints at relaxing entry prohibition into Zone C

Governor Adrian Davis

Governor Adrian Davis

Governor Adrian Davis at his recent press conference while responding questions of illegal acquisition of scrap metal from Plymouth and other areas, used the opportunity to remind, “it is illegal to enter the Exclusion Zone apart from people who have been given a specific agreement to do so which are sand miners and scrap metal merchants.”

But that brought to say: “… we also want to think about allowing Tourists in a managed manner to start to go into the exclusion zone.”

The Governor informed that he is in active discussion with the manager of the MVO about proposals to reduce the hazard level warning down from two to one which among other things, “would have the effect of 24hr access to Zone C.”

But he hastened to add that did not include habitation of homes in Zone C. “That would not mean I hasten to add right here, that we are looking to re-establish habitation in homes in Zone C. It would just mean that you would not need to go through the police etc to get into Zone C,” he said.
