Governor General grants Pardon to five prisoners on Antigua and Barbuda’s 30th Anniversary of Independence

Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, Dame Louise Lake-Tack,

Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda, Dame Louise Lake-Tack, acting on the advise of the Honourable Prime Minister W. Baldwin Spencer, following consultations with the Honourable Minister Responsible for National Security Dr. the Honourable. L. Errol Cort, has granted pardon to five individuals who were convicted of an offence against the law and serving prison sentences.

The Governor General’s pardon to the five convicted individuals was announced as part of the country’s 30th Anniversary of Independence celebrations. The five individuals had very short time periods remaining on their convictions.

The five individuals receiving pardon have exhibited qualities that will allow them to be effectively re-integrated into society and have demonstrated that they are prepared to contribute positively to their various communities.

The Governor General was acting in accordance with Section 84 (1) a. of the Constitution of Antigua and Barbuda.
