Montserrat on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, as planned, welcomed its new, and 2nd female Governor in Miss Elizabeth Carriere at her swearing-in as Governor during a full session of the Montserrat Legislative Assembly.
The only member absent from this sitting was the Hon. Opposition Leader, Reuben T. Meade.
Following the seating of the Hon. Speaker Miss Shirley Osborne, the Ag. Clerk of the Legislative Assembly, and announced the Acting Governor, Hon Alric Taylor and the Governor designate, Miss Carriere.
When all entered the Chamber, prayers were lead by Bishop Melroy Meade, followed by the Warrant appointing Miss Carriere, OBE as the Governor, read by the Clerk.
The Hon. Attorney General, Keith Friday administers the oath followed by remarks by the Speaker. Further remarks came the Deputy Governor, the Premier, and Hon. Joseph Farrell who spoke on behalf of the Opposition.
These remarks all addressed to the new Governor Her Excellency Elizabeth Carriere as she takes up her representation of Queen Elizabeth II in Montserrat. She responded to the welcomes giving a speech which noticeably stressed on Good Governance.
The details of these remarks and addresses will be forthcoming in the next issue with a full report of the event which ended with a reception upstairs the Cultural centre following Her Excellency’s inspection of a Guard of Honour mounted outside the MC Centre.
