GISL CEO chairs the 6th Caribbean Conference on Caribbean Disaster Management

Devember 08, 2011: The Chiefr Executive Officer of the Government Information Services Limited (GISL) Mr. Andy Johnson chaired the high level meeting of the 6th Caribbean Conference on Caribbean Disaster Management at the Port of Spain Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Trinidad conference centre. The theme of the 2011 conference was “CDM: Reflection, Introspection, Moving Forward”. Discussed at the 5th plenary session entitled CDM Moving Forward: Seizing the Opportunities and Repositioning was the role of CDM in changing the Character of the Risk Management Landscape and Strategies for Effective Disaster Risk Management Policy and Programming in Small States.

The Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) is the regional contribution to the United Nations’ International Strategy for Disaster Reduction’s (UNISDR) Hyogo Framework for Action 2005-2015, a blue print for global action in Disaster Risk Reduction. As such, this CDM Conference is a regional event of the UNISDR global platform and is structured to promote good practice, share ongoing research and chart the way forward for the advancement of CDM in the Caribbean. This important event also aims to provide a unique opportunity to facilitate networking among disaster management personnel.
