The Minister for the Overseas Territories at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London, Mr James Duddridge MP, will visit Montserrat on Thursday 9 October 2014. ‘According to a press release from the Governor’s office, “This will be the Minister’s first visit to the Caribbean in his current role, where he is also visiting Barbados and the British Virgin Islands.”
While in Montserrat, Mr Duddridge will meet the Premier, Hon Donaldson Romeo, and his Ministerial team; see the developments in Little Bay and Carr’s Bay; visit the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO); take a helicopter flight over the volcano and the rest of the island and have a presentation on the island’s Mountain Chicken project. He will complete his visit with a joint press conference with the Premier at the Hilltop Café.
According to the Governor’s office Mr Duddridge said he is looking forward to his visit. He is quoted as follows: “I am delighted to be visiting Montserrat on my first visit to the Caribbean since taking up my post. I look forward to meeting the Hon Premier and his Government, and hearing about his plans, his aspirations for the UK-Montserrat relationship, as well as his ideas for the Joint Ministerial Council in December.”
“I have heard much about Montserrat’s resilience, optimism and, above all, the warmth and friendliness of its people,” he concludes.
Both the FCO Minister and Premier Romeo will host a press conference.
