Antigua: A Freeman’s Village family has been left homeless after an afternoon fire completely destroyed their home, leaving Mirilla Alfred and her four children with only the clothes on their backs.

According to a press communiqué issued by the Strategic Communications office, neighbours reportedly saw smoke coming from the wooden structure at about 2 pm on Thursday and contacted the police.

However, by the time the first responders arrived on the scene, the home owned by Hilarine Colbourne was engulfed in flames and the fire tender could only extinguish the blaze before it spread.

Alfred, 37 and her children aged 10 through 16 years old were reportedly not at home at the time of the fire.
So far for the year, the Antigua & Barbuda Fire Brigade has responded to a total of 469 fire reports; which includes building and bush fires.
