Expat M’rat home-owner suggests cost saver alternative energy to geothermal

chlpatent@aol.com

Just one commercial/utility scale wind turbine could provide more than the suggested 1.7 megawatts at a fraction of the cost to build and operate.

Placed off-shore on the eastern side of the island, where shipping lanes permit, and there would be minimal if any noise or other environmental consequences.  Geothermal will generate constant noise, there will be waste water to deal with, and it will require plenty of fresh/clean water resources to operate, water resources that are relatively limited on Montserrat.

Geothermal on Montserrat will be another boondoggle, in my opinion. Definition: “A boondoggle is a project that is considered a useless waste of both time and money, yet is often continued due to extraneous policy motivations.”

PS: I am an electrical engineer and a patent attorney, own property on Montserrat (since the 1960’s) and love the place and the people,  and have a keen interest in alternative energy and conservation (I drive a Nissan Leaf electric car here in the US).
