The Ministry of Education, Montserrat in collaboration with the Montserrat Red Cross will be conducting a UNICEF sponsored one-day workshop on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at the Disaster Management Coordination Agency from 8:30 to 4:00 p.m.
This workshop is being targeted at key stakeholders as a capacity building strategy geared towards ensuring education provision during emergencies.
Dr. Sheron Burns, Education Officer, Early Childhood and Mrs. Anne Thomas of the Montserrat Red Cross, who both received training by the Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE), will be the lead facilitators.
In an invitation to the various stakeholders, the organizers encouraged and anticipated participation, “as we try to ensure that children on Montserrat have access to appropriate and quality education even during times of crisis,” it said.
In a lead-up to the activity Dr. Sheron Burns revealed that Education Ministries met last year and planned the introduction of various organisations to standards put together by the INEE to ensure, “that children are exposed to education during times of emergencies.”
