GIU, Montserrat–Chief Minister, the Honourable Reuben T. Meade is in Washington, D.C. this week to attend and participate in the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The chief minister was invited to attend as he presently serves as Chairman of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) Monetary Council.
He said last week, the substantive fiscal issues facing the ECCU, and the fact that several member countries in the ECCU have arrangements with the IMF made it an important time to attend the DC meetings.
The sessions are being held September 23 to 25 and include seminars, open forums, press briefings and presentations on key financial issues facing various sectors of the world.
“Because the Annual Meetings bring such a large number of member country officials together, they provide opportunities for consultations large and small, formal and informal. The Annual Meetings Program of Seminars is designed to foster creative dialogue among the private sector, government delegates and senior Bank and Fund officials,” the official event website states.
Chief Minister Meade assumed the Chairmanship of the ECCU Monetary Council in July.
