Businessman granted $75,000 bail, station bail at $15,000 in Dominica

courtA businessman was granted bail in the sum of $75,000 when he appeared before a Roseau Magistrate on Friday on alleged inappropriate behavior involving a minor.

He is facing six charges under the Sexual Offences Act: three alleged counts of indecent assault and three alleged counts of unlawful sexual intercourse.

Due to the nature of the offense, the Sexual Offences Act prohibits the publication of the name of the accused.

The prosecution did not object to bail.

He is to surrender his passport to the police, not interfere with the virtual complainant, be of good behavior and report to police headquarters twice a week.

Trial date is set for June 6, 2016.

Man gets station bail in alleged inappropriate behavior matter

BailA man who was being questioned by the police in relation to alleged inappropriate behavior involving a minor has been granted station bail in the sum of $15,000, Dominica News Online has been informed.

He has been charged with indecent assault.

The man was picked up on Thursday and was questioned late into the night and also on Friday, sources told DNO. Sources also said he spent the night in police custody.

Bail was granted late Friday afternoon, according to reports. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.

The matter is part of investigations by the police of three men it is alleged engaged in inappropriate behavior involving the minor.

One man has already been charged and appeared in court on Friday morning. He was released on $75,000 bail.

Reports are that the third man is still being sought by the police.

Due to the nature of the offense, the laws of Dominica prohibit the publication of names until there is a verdict in a court of law.
