With a strategy to actively target the ‘bird watching’ niche market, the Montserrat Tourist Board (MTB) sponsored Montserrat’s participation at the British Bird Watching Fair in the UK at the Eagleton Nature Reserve. The Fair took place between August 20-22, this year.
James Scriber Daley well known forest and nature tour guide lead the Montserrat delegation. He was assisted at the fair by two members form the MTB’s UK public relations company The Saltmarsh Partnership.
Montserrat meantime, has been identified as one of the important birding sites in the Caribbean where the Centre Hills is the home of large numbers of the Montserrat Oriole. The endangered forest trush and other less endemic bird species.
Information on birding on Montserrat and the nature adventure tours and tourism information on the island was given out at the fair which is the world’s first and largest international bird watching event. The Montserrat Centre hills field guide went on sale at the fair and its author Steve Holiday was be on hand to support the Montserrat team.
Marketing manager Ishwar Persad announced that the Montserrat presentation was well received as it highlighted varied aspects of the islands Fauna and Flora . He reported that there was immediate success following the fair when MTB was able to actually take a booking for a group of eight persons at the show. He revealed that the package actually is a combined island package which features Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda and Montserrat.
“Persons get to see the bird life in all three islands,” Persad said as he hoped, “that additional bookings will follow and we see allot more builders coming to Montserrat in the next year or so.”
