Another FlyMontserrat aircraft faulty landing incident in Montserrat

FlyMontserrat flight came to rest just feet away from the ditch seen here

The talk, the complaints, the calls and claims had not yet been silenced before the news came around 9.00 a.m. that another FlyMontserrat aircraft had run off the runway at John A. Osborne airport in Montserrat. This comes after its fatal crash in Antigua on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 with three dead and one critically injured survivor.

An unsigned 11.19 a.m. statement from FlyMontserrat of Montserrat Airways Ltd., confirms that one of its aircraft “Flight 5M 2109 from Antigua with seven passengers, landed normally and decelerated along the runway.”

The aircraft as seen in the photos here rested close to a ditch just off the runway. The statement explained: “The pilot thought that he felt a minor vibration and as a precaution, he let the aircraft roll gently onto the grass, where the passengers disembarked.”

There have been no reports of injuries and according to the statement “no damage to the aircraft.”

This is the third similar incident involving  FlyMontserrat’s aircrafts (fleet of three), on April 17 and May 23, 2011, along with other very minor incidents which have left passengers talking.

This follows the tragic crash accident on Sunday, 7th and other crash incidents in the region along with the sinking of what is termed as the “food boat” from Dominica on this past Sunday. Along with these the untimely death of Aubrey Barry, and the subsequent and recent death of Montserrat’s chief statistician, Mrs. Katrina Ryan who died after a short illness in Antigua hospital. All, causing grief and concern among Montserratians wherever they are.
