A Consultancy to provide for Occupational Safety and Health

Hylroy Bramble

Hylroy Bramble

Hilroy L. Bramble is popularly known for a ZJB  radio program of several years ago called ‘Labour Speaks’ and as president of the former Montserrat Allied Workers Union.

He has been active in labour matters for many years and still serves on the Labour Tribunal. It comes as little surprise that Bramble would be the one who sat with ZJB James White Jr. and Bennette Roach of The Montserrat Reporter, to announce and speak to a consultancy firm called Hilroy L. Bramble Occupational Safety and Health Consultancy.

Referencing  the Labour Code, in particular Part 10—Health, Safety and Welfare, Bramble said, “In looking at it I have recognised the need. I am here locally, I feel myself competent and capable of to carry out these tasks.  Workplaces need safety manuals in them – I did one for the Glendon Hospital – and I did one which involved the senior staff of the lab, the pharmacy. Senior nurses in the clinics and even from the two nurses in the homes. The manuals exist today.”

Bramble hinted at the benefits. “There are some of the things that come out in the new Labour Code which must be done,” he said, adding, “it is better to spend $5,000.00 dollars to save a life than to spend $500,000.00 down the road on just one worker.”

He pointed out that, medical expenses especially when it comes to occupational illnesses, “…becoming very expensive. Because remember occupational medicine is a specialty field.”

Bramble said it will not be long before the Labour Department begin to enforce the Labour Code. He said that he has had a long relationship with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and he has consulted with his regional counterparts in the labour field, especially that he intends to take his consultancy regionally and internationally.
