Herman ‘Cupid’ Francis was the master of ceremonies, when Alexia Allison, Azrudee Lindsey, Juneann John, and Tazia Briscoe were hosted on Friday, November 16, 2013, by His Excellency Governor Adrian Davis and his wife Sujue at Government House, where the Montserrat Festival Committee presented them as the 2013 Festival Queen contestants.
Alexia is sponsored by Tropical Mansion Suites, Azrudee by M S Osborne Ltd. (MSO); Juneann by Technology & Business Specialists Ltd. out of Antigua; and Tazia by Montserrat Utilities Ltd. (MUL). Both MSO and MUL being long standing businesses in Montserrat and having sponsored several contestants of the past 50 festivals in Montserrat, boasted the chance of their contestant grabbing the crown once again. The Hon. Germaine Wade represented the Antigua sponsor.
Popular singer Andre West serenaded the young women with song, joined later by Tomeika Jeffrey, first Montserrat Idol 2011, and Tiffannie Skerritt, described by the MC as one of Montserrat’s finest, all entertained the audience who gathered for the presentation and sashing of the contestants.
There was only one downside to the evening event, missing young men, at a function inundated with young adults and teenage girls, as Justin Hero Cassell and Montserrat’s reigning calypso monarch Herman ‘Cupid’ Francis, with the well-known ‘one man band’ provided songs for dancing.
The contestants posed with their chaperones, introduced themselves and each delivered a framed photo to their sponsor.
The Montserrat Festival Committee, Coordinator Veta Wade who staged the event shared in one of the high points of the evening when she received a check for $5,000 from Governor Davis. He said the check was a personal contribution from his wife and himself for the Queen Show event that he considers the main attraction of the festival.
The Governor revealed jokingly that he told the press (TMR) that beautiful young ladies is a regular at Government house, but who quite rightly did not believe him. Miss Wade in thanking the Governor took the opportunity to thank all who participated in the evenings proceedings, including the waiters who serve the guests, as she reminded and invited all to the Queen Show on December 29.
