Make An Inspirational Impact, and be a catalyst for good

Editorial – March 20, 2015 :
In November last year we published two editorials because we believed there were already signs that the new People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) Government did not understand the mandates they set themselves. Were these promises of democracy and transparency just following their leader’s relentless calls, when he kept talking about democracy and transparency while he was leader of the opposition, or were they just posturising?

This man has not been ever described as being dishonest and it may well be difficult to entertain thoughts that he is secretive, not necessarily a fault/weakness but it is dangerous.

As the focus shifts easily to him as is common in most political arenas he is the one who when reference is made to ‘Government’ that people will eventually seek answers. The past two weeks we referred to and even suggested compromise as to our expectation to receive the report from the MDC Task Force review. We reported last week that it was being withheld, the Governor suggesting there could be sensitive issues within it that might cause a delay in its publication. Now the latest is that there is a strict directive or agreement that it should not be released to the public. They wait for ‘legal’ clearance while informing that there is ‘no smoking gun of irregularities’ in the report, with a note, “don’t forget that it wasn’t an investigation.”

The first editorial we highlighted, “Just using the word ‘Democracy’ without understanding it chaotic”, we warned: “When it is possible for any new government not to first ensure that all Constitutional matters particularly with regards to their governance be dealt with, it becomes a serious matter of concern, especially when comments are being made about actions being taken with due regard to the practice of ‘democracy’”. Just before that we headlined, “Good governance, democracy, our understanding and future”.

The we headlined or few weeks later as the rumblings surfaced, “The processes they include corruption and lack of transparency”. We said, “it should have come as no surprise to anyone attentive enough, that there would have been some change/s at the Montserrat Development Corporation (MDC) whether with the work they were carrying on or not carrying on, functions or structure.” More than that took place.

We noted that, “The MDC was the catalyst hub”, for our future development, and that they publicized that, not for all to see, since it all goes on the website. MDC, “promotes economic growth throughout Montserrat. Our mission is to help Montserrat achieve economic and fiscal self-sufficiency. We aim to support growth in jobs and business opportunities.” All this with HMG (UK Government) funds.

What will it take for this government to understand that impatience is setting in, while they remain silent about publicising the difficulties they face, and their inactivity as to how they intend to funds to use for the people they say they are putting first. We believe they are not deaf, so they hear the discontent about who they are so far, “putting first”. But we say, all well if you cannot be accused of cronyism, but there are doubts. We have spoken about that to.

We have taken the lead. We call on our Government to make a change, it is why you are there! BE ready to answer the question, “How are you different, or will you be different?” And then to what end! Begin by putting ‘the people in the know.’ Invest before it is too late.

Next week will be, LEAD2015 – the World Leadership event of the year. On March 30th-31st this leadership conference will be held in Dallas, Texas featuring some of the world’s most inspiring, globally recognized leaders who will unite to educate and inspire other leaders around the world.
