LITTLE BAY, Montserrat – This Friday, 16 calypsonians will compete for a spot in the finals slated for Monday December 29 at Festival Village in Little Bay.
A change to the final selection was made on Tuesday with Joy “Dynamite” Williams being replaced by Shwaniyah Marshall after the scores were retabulated.
According to Dennison Daley, one of the developers behind the voting software Talypso, “during the eliminations the weather conditions required that the judges be shifted from their seated area to a more sheltered facility and during that shift one of the scores was delayed.
“As a result of the delay, the snapshot that was used to announce the semi-finalist did not reflect the true results. This is no fault of the judges or the system,” explained Daley.
Top vote getter according to the results released on Tuesday by the Montserrat Festival Committee was Keithroy De Bear Morson with 324, followed by Earl Hustler Browne with 315 points. Silvina Kandie Malone (311), Garnett Sylk Thompson (309) and Maxcine Lee (292) round out the top five.
The other competitors are James Cruza Browne, Stevel Mighty Soca Rodney, Rondell Meade, Charles Ras Ipa Fenton, Davon Rakatang Williams, Leory Jah Wanza Daley, Steve GT Jeffery, Herman Cupid Francis, Maggie Destouche, and Kelvin Tabu Duberry.
Friday’s semi-finals will have 16 entries as Alvin Black Jaguar Sweeney has been allowed to compete although he missed the eliminations because of the last minute event change which conflicted with his travel plans.
The show is scheduled to begin at 8pm.
