“MUL” For Montserrat, Only!

by Man from Baker Hill

MUL personifies successful outsourcing in Montserrat. The electricity company, the Montserrat Electricity Company is the most successful Montserrat enterprise. MUL is guaranteed to succeed.  Every hour, every day Montserratians use and pay for the services of MUL. MUL is we! MUL is ours. The company belongs to Montserrat alone. We do not need St. Lucia or St. Lucians to help us or to manage us or to share our profits.

If Montserrat is going to take the next step in outsourcing and make MUL a full-blooded limited corporation, the shares must be sold to Montserratians only. Wherever in the universe Montserratians reside, find them and sell them the shares of MUL.  And if Montserratians fall short in raising sufficient capital, there is enough money at Bank of Montserrat and the Montserrat Building Society to finance a $100 million expansion at MUL. We do not need any money from St. Lucia to prop up us. If ‘Loos See Lacks’ have excess money let them use their money to deal with their hurricane and political problems. There is profit to be made in selling energy to Montserrat and that profit must be distributed to Montserratians.

The senior managers of MUL, Ken and Jack, are as intelligent, as experienced and as trainable as any other engineer in the region. Good god almighty why do we need a ST. Lucian to manage them or Montserrat?  MUL came on the same trip as LUCILEC. They arrived on the deck of the Motor Vessel ‘CDC’. In fact MUL is more advanced than LUCILEC. MUL has combined the power and water services into one entity to serve Montserrat; we have had all island power and water lines over five decades ago.  I doubt that there are all island power or water supply lines in St. Lucia.  There are more trained and experienced managers per capita on Montserrat than in St. Lucia. We are intelligent people. We do not need another St. Lucian to coordinate us or to call Montserrat stupid!

St. Lucia might be ahead of Montserrat in terms of geothermal exploration; but they do not have an active volcano to retard their progress. And for that matter we do not have to use the same experts that they use to assist with their geothermal energy exploration, because we already have one that is working through CRM, DFID and government. We do not have to beg St. Lucia to show us the way.
.
Could St. Lucia balance its budget?  Do they borrow and beg from the DFID, IDB and the CDB? Do they pay back their debts or do they seek to reschedule their debts at maturity?  Where are the financial statements for LUCILEC? Who are the major shareholders of LUCILEC? How many shares are authorized and how many were issued? What is the share capital?  How did LUCILEC finance its capital? Mr. CM Meade print their financial statements in The Montserrat Reporter.

Please Mr. REUBEN MEADE, stop people from laughing at us, poking their hands in our eyes, and taking our money in the name of expert managers and consultants. Reuben Meade re-schedule your agenda! Please do not sell MUL. Please present Montserratians with a prospectus for the re-capitalization of MUL and we will be there in dollars and sense.   MUL is Montserrat.
