Firstly, A Correction
It took a while to find where we erred in ‘fact’ in the above headlined story in the August 13 issue of The Montserrat Reporter (TMR) as we were so advised by a spokesman for the CRM (Committee for the Redevelopment of Montserrat). The error was in the last paragraph of the article, and we must apologise to the Committee therefor.
It however offers an easy opportunity, not only to correct the error but also to expand, on a matter that is considered to be a most important development in the economic and everyday life of Montserrat.
The article stated: “…MGC could source a complete generating plant for Eighty thousand pounds, approximately EC$350,000.” The figure of £80,000 was in connection with the availability of a ‘reconditioned diesel generator’ similar to those still in Plymouth.
Sam Rhys Williams, whose expertise among others is in Electrical Engineering, is one of the CRM members and director in Montserrat Geothermal Co. (MGC). He explains that CRM carried out extensive research and advised government of the availability a complete new generating plant at a cost of EC$12 million approximately £2.86 million at today’s exchange rate.
He said that also available out of the U.K. at a price of $8 million are four reconditioned one (1) mgw generators, which in his opinion would be a better choice, since two of these can carry Montserrat with two available as standbys. Also available are two – two (2) mgw generators (also reconditioned) at a price of $6 million. These three options have been submitted to government as alternatives to meet any compulsive immediate need that may be necessary.
Of course all of this CRM argues must be taken on board with the consideration that Geothermal energy could be available in a reasonably short space of time.

I would like to know if Mr. S. Rhys Williams DIRECTOR of MGC (Montserrat Geothermal Corp.) is Seriously a member of CRM. ???!!
To come out and research, and offer advice to the Government of Montserrat about buying some Reconditioned Diesel Engines, to put on Montserrat, (does he have alternative Motive?) when he should know that for the same $8 million dollars, which he says these RECONDITIONED engines cost, you CAN BUY several Modules, to generate enough Geothermal Energy for ALL Montserrat!!.
The Fact that World OIL Prices are going UP.. And the abundant use of Fossil Fuel by China, and India, will cause the World to run LOW on Fossil Fuels by 2015, and the fact that PRESENTLY Montserratians on Monthly Electric Bills, the Fuel Surcharge is higher that their Consumption charge!!?? Means that it will also increase too!! ..
How AFTER buying these Fossil (OLD RECONDITIONED)(Not energy efficient anymore ) Engines, that we could ever approach any Funding Agency, to ask for money to implement Geothermal Energy on Montserrat!!
NOW HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION!!! Has ANYONE on Montserrat, Written/Contacted in ANY WAY Sen. Hilary Clinton or The Gov. of The United States, to take them up on their offer to be GIVEN Technical Support??!!!..
Has CRM or MGC. contacted any other Gov. in the World for Assistance to even DRILL the Well???!!
I am sure if the Gov. of Montserrat, (with the Approval of the British Government) (“POLITICS”)contacted Pres. Chavez, and ask him to bring/donate a Drilling Rig, with the special pipes, and Valves to get a start, then with those moneys that the Gov. of Montserrat are going to use to build and equipt a New Power Plant at Brades, could purchase enough Modules to produce at least a 2 Megawatts of Electric Power for Montserrat!!..
PLEASE.. It’s time to Move Montserrat AHEAD.. No more Fuel Surcharge on Montserrat!!..
Let’s all focus our thoughts on getting Geothermal on Montserrat, Get rid of the Nay-Saying persons, once and for the good of ALL..
THIS IS A BROCKADE
Dear CRM or MGC there are a lot of statements what you need to correct.
Why are you fighting with diesel engines when the issue is geothermal power?
If we get the binary geothermal system, what are you going to do with the diesel engines?
You will never have to stop the binary system to repair it because of the way it is made, you do not have to drill 5000 feet or spend four million US dollars for drilling.
As we start using more than 2 megawatts of power it is simple to add more power, in increments of 280 kilowatts up to more than 10 megawatt as we need for local use.
Ray Tyson was saying that they are sending the engines from Plymouth to England to be refurbish but that is total madness; (those engines are staying in Montserrat
He knows that none of the engines are coming back, so why should he say that?
Can you tell us what it is on the engines that can not be repaired in Montserrat?
What is wrong with the engines?
The engines that you are sending to England may be better than what you are buying.
There is a big deference between a recondition and a rebuilt engine.
If there is a major problem with an engine and you are sending the engine to England to get it rebuild, it would sound a little better but not recondition.
There is a way to test the condition of inside of an engine without taking it apart.
If anyone knows anything about turbine, they could take one look at the different turbines and tell the binary turbine operates at a much higher pressure than the steam pressure turbine because of the way they are made.
It aggravates me and make me feel very sad, the statements that comes out of Montserrat pertaining to geothermal power.
The manager of the electricity department said the steam pressure system has more power than the binary system and that is why they are going to use the steam pressure system but he is wrong and why he keep saying that I do not know
Are you British people “capitalizing” on peter’s mistake to bring a British company to takeover Montserrat geothermal power? Because the steam pressure system is taking Montserrat backwards and is a waste of money and is counter productive.
If it is because the British does not have the patent for the Binary system who cares?
We are not bound by the British to buy what we need.
Ray Tyson never said a word about the offer The United States or The United Nations made to help the Caribbean Islands with geothermal power in his address to the people.
The money that is spent for fuel could pay for a binary geothermal system in one year.
It appears as if the blockade the British people are putting on us looks much larger than we think and are just waiting for the government of Montserrat to sign the constitution to make the blockade impenetrable.
PLEASE REMOVE THE BRITISH BLOCKADE
Why should the engines in Plymouth go to England?
I am calling on CRM or MGC for a live debate on geothermal power for Montserrat because the British people that are involve in it is not working in the interest of Montserrat
1) There is no need to spend 4 million US for drilling
2) There is no need to drill 5000 feet
3) There is no reason to have diesel engines as backup when we use the binary system.
4) The binary system is much cheaper to install and is the most reliable source of electricity in the world
5) The worst thing government could do is to privatize electricity.
6) There should be no share holders in the local use of electricity.
7) What is wrong with the engines in Plymouth?
9) Why you do not want the UN or The United States offer to help
10) Why should people with that little money want to have access to the RICHEST SQUARE MILE? Is it to stop the billion dollar industry?
When you are coming to debate please bring Peter with you.
