The Clean as a Whistle project winded down with Lookout the winner, under the chairmanship of Fredwill Riley.
The announcement was made by the honourable Chief Minster on Thursday evening .
First the runner up district 3 which is Cudjoe Head, with a total of 1148 points out of a possible 1800. And the winner is look out area district 5which finish with a total of 1257 points out of a possible 1800 points. The prizes will be distributed at government house reception to be held on the 15 of July 2010.
The Chief Minister congratulated Our heartiest congratulation to those the winning communities, and recommended: “Let us as a community of Montserrat say to ourselves, we will always keep Montserrat clean and beautiful.
Congratulations to the winners of Clean as a Whistle! I think it is absolutely great that Montserrat had the Clean as A Whistle Project. I have travelled quite a bit in the Caribbean and brag often to family and friends here in Canada about how clean Montserrat is compared to other islands. Not only is it the cleanest island I have been to, but also the friendliest. I have one concern however. Why, does Montserrat allow plastic bags on the island? These bags are not good for the environment and take years to break down. With the environment so much in the forefront these days, I would like to see Montserrat step up and start getting involved in recycling, and composting. It is very dishearting when we visit, to through things in the garbage, that are recyclable. Is there a project or plan underway that will see people recycle and compost more? Maybe I am just not aware of this if that is the case. Also, start having people use reusable bags, that they take to the store when they buy their food and other necessaties.
People of Montserrat, keep up the good clean work. It is something you all can be and should be proud of!
